Case #1
Thyroid Cancer -
37-year-old female
History
A 37-year-old female with a history of papillary thyroid carcinoma that no longer is radio sensitive to iodine thyroid scanning.
CT Findings
CT examination of the neck with contrast showed some increased density to the left of the trachea in the suprasternal notch region just below the hyoid bone and the thyroid cartilage region. This likely represents esophagus and other soft tissue since the whole body I-131 scan was negative. No findings were suspicious for metastatic disease.
PET Findings
There is evidence of a small focus of increased radiotracer uptake just to the left of midline in the lower neck. This may represent a residual focus of carcinoma in the region of the left lobe of the thyroid or within an adjacent lymph node.
