Case #17
Breast Cancer -
66-year old female
History
A 66-year old female diagnosed with breast CA in 1991. Pt had a right mastectomy followed by radiation and chemo tx.
CT Findings
CT showed five right indeterminate lung lesions suggestive of metastatic CA plus a midscapular nodule determined to be insignificant. Pt sent for PET breast CA restaging.
PET Findings
PET scan showed multiple metabolic foci consistent for a deposit of nodes involving the suprahilar, supraclavicular, and axillary regions on the right. Small nodes also seen along paratracheal region bilaterally, extending into the supraclavicular on the left. Metabolic foci also seen along the periaortic nodes bilaterally, on the left proximal femur, and an area involving the lumbar spine.
The PET scan revealed the whole picture discovering areas of metastatic disease the CT scan missed. Had the pt not had a PET scan unseen disease would have been left untreated.
